It was a cold evening in October, and queuing along a city high street were around 300 Architects fans, resplendent in black, with the odd twang of flannel breaking up the line. By the time I got in, Lower Than Atlantis [4] had almost finished their set. There was nothing wrong with there performance (I heard 1.5 songs), but what struck me was the striking contrast between LTA and the other bands. It just wasn’t the right genre to support Architects. The soundscapes of Devil Sold His Soul [7] balanced off nicely with their heavier endings. Towards the end of their set however, DSHS’s formula of “post-metal, soundscape beginning, heavy ending” became apparent, making the latter tracks seem predictable. The crushing power and stage presence of Norma Jean [8] was incredible - spawning a huge mosh pit. When the Brighton-headliners took to the stage, a huge roar erupted in the venue, and their opening track “Day In, Day Out” kicked off the carnage in style. Architects [10] managed to play a large percentage of their current album “Hollow Crown,” with some old songs thrown in for the hardcore fans. The set finished with an epic ballad the title track off their most recent album, before their encore of “Follow the Water” twisted the knife for Front of House security with the frequency of crowd surfers sky-rocketing. An epic night of music for the city of @”££Y£%”£@.
A DAY TO REMEMBER TRACK SINGLE PREVIEW
With ADTR’s new album to be released in the near future, this week witnessed the launch of first single “All I Want”. For ADTR fans who thought that “Homesick” was their best album to date, you wont be disappointed, as screaming is kept to a minimum, and cordoned off to the very end of the track. But for those who preferred the older, heavier ADTR stuff, there is plenty to be excited about too. “All I Want” is easy on the straight up heavy shit, without being your regular pop-punk song about touring or drinking. Interestingly, the song is without ADTR’s signature breakdown, but I doubt there will be any shortage of those on the new record, scheduled for release on November 16th.
